Nestled in a picturesque loop of the Doubs river, Besançon offers a remarkably lush setting ideally suited for corporate beehives. Apiterra supports local organizations across Franche-Comté with turnkey apiary installations and comprehensive professional beekeeping management.
Renowned for its historic watchmaking tradition and cutting-edge microtechnology cluster, Besançon hosts a vibrant ecosystem of precision engineering firms, research institutes, and modern tertiary services. Business hubs such as the TEMIS technopole, focused on microtechnology and healthcare, alongside commercial parks like Châteaufarine, provide excellent environments for corporate apiaries. Companies in the Doubs area, committed to operational excellence and sustainability, can leverage corporate beekeeping to engage employees, highlight their local roots, and make a tangible contribution to environmental stewardship in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
Surrounded by protected forested hills and crossed by the Doubs, Besançon is consistently recognized as one of France's greenest cities. Honeybees benefit from diverse foraging habitats spanning the Chailluz municipal forest, riverside corridors, and historic public spaces such as Parc Micaud and Chamars. Linden trees, black locust, maples, and limestone meadow flora sustain healthy colonies throughout the season. The semi-continental climate, with its distinct seasons, provides abundant nectar and pollen flows from the onset of spring through late summer.
From flat rooftops across the TEMIS business district to landscaped outdoor courtyards of corporate headquarters, many premises can safely accommodate beehives. Apiterra handles initial technical audits, secure installation, and year-round apiary maintenance. Introducing beehives serves as a meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) milestone, engaging team members through educational workshops and the distribution of custom-labeled honey harvested right on-site.
Above all, it brings people together: hive visits, harvest days, the Apiterra mobile app and the Apinews keep every employee involved throughout the year.

Questions about beehives in Besançon
How do corporate beehives cope with the colder winter climate in Besançon?
+
Honeybees are naturally equipped to endure cold semi-continental winters by forming a winter cluster inside the hive. Apiterra's beekeepers carefully manage feeding reserves and hive insulation in autumn to ensure colonies emerge healthy and active in spring.
Do you really work in Besançon?
+
Yes. Apiterra installs and maintains corporate beehives in Besançon and across Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, as in the rest of France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
Is there any risk for employees?
+
Hives are installed in places away from passage areas after an on-site study. Bees fly up and out of the apiary and are not interested in people. Apiterra takes care of insurance and all legal obligations.
How much does it cost?
+
Each project is different (number of hives, site, options). Request a quote and we will send you a personalised proposal.
What if we have no rooftop or garden?
+
You can sponsor hives hosted in our Apiterra apiaries and still receive honey and news from your colonies.
